One Book, One River Hill 2015-16
This year's community read will be The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez.
This is a wonderful, character driven young adult novel that focuses on the dreams and love story of two families living in Delaware. These voices are interlaced with additional tales of their neighbors which give a rich context to the ideas of love, guilt, hope and fear that pervade the story. It's a wonderful portrait of what it means to be an American, both to those of us who were born here and those of us who weren't.
The idea behind One Book One River Hill is to build community through a shared reading experience. The organizers would like to encourage everyone in our community (parents, students, staff) to read this book and partake in some of the bookish fun they will put together. The Spanish Honor Society is planning to read the book in Spanish and will be planning at least one Hawk Time activity, and the Photo 3 students are putting together posters.
